Handing over ceremony and pinning of Dr. Hassan Abbas Helmy,
District 2450 Governor 2006-2007
The ceremony started at 10:00 pm on Saturday, 1st of July 2006 and was attended by General Mohamed Abdel Salam El Mahgoub – Governor of Alexandria – and leaders of social work within the governate. The program started by a welcome note given by Rotarian Sameh Elserety where he greeted all attendees and talked about the role of Rotary in community service. Then he highlighted some of the district achievements during the year 2005/2006 under the governorship of John Strongylos, and enlightened our hopes for the anticipated accomplishments during the year 2006/2007 under the leadership of DG Hassan Abbas Helmy. This was followed by a presentation – prepared and narrated by AG Ahmed Saada – about the history of Rotary since 1905 and Paul Harris, founder of Rotary; all the way to the centennial anniversary in 2005. After that, a march of the official flags of the nine countries included in District 2450 (Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus, Sudan, Jordan, Bahrain, UAE, Armenia and Georgia) was demonstrated. This was proceeded by an address given by PDG John Strongylos, explaining what have been accomplished by the district and different clubs during the year 2005-2006, and he hoped that whatever was not completed during his term as governor, would be finished during the year 2006-2007. Also, he expressed his gratitude to all his assistants who have helped him in implementing the projects and also in the administration tasks, after that he presented the award of "Service Above Self" to PP. Wagdy Messiha.
John concluded his talk by handing over the Governor pin to DG Hassan Abbas Helmy who likewise; gave a speech and praised all members of the taskforce who collaborated with him in a positive way during the last few months, to prepare for the new Rotary year. Also, he spoke about his vision for the important projects that he has chosen to be implemented by our district:
1) Sudan Convoy.
2) Bilharzias combat in Egypt and Sudan.
3) Microfinance through revolving funds.
4) Population development projects.
In his address, he encouraged all Rotarians to Lead the Way, which is the R.I. theme for the current year, and he stressed the importance of membership development and attendance of the membership seminar that will take place in Alexandria on the 18th of August. He also emphasized the importance of visiting the website of our district at
www.rotary2450.org to be well versed with the events and news of our district, as well as to update the contact info of all members and match it with what is available at the Rotary International.
At the end, DG Hassan Abbas Helmy invited all Rotarians and their families to attend the 71st district conference that will be held in Alexandria from 17th to 20th of May 2007, and he finally wished everybody to enjoy the evening before getting ready for serious work during the current year, and to Lead the Way towards our humanitarian purpose.
After Dr. Hassan ended his speech, all immediate past presidents where called in to hand over their club presidency pins to the new presidents. Then DS Mohamed Abdel Mohsen gave a word of appreciation to all Rotarians who helped out in the preparation of the ceremony: Rot. Ahmed Yehia Ashour (R.C. Alexandria), PP Wagdy Messiha (R.C. Alexandria El-Nozha), AG Ahmed Saada (R.C. Alexandria) PP Mesbah Khedr (R.C. Alexandria Mariout) and P. Ossama El Ahmar (R.C. Alexandria Sporting). Dinner was served at 11:45 pm, and this was followed by a performance of the Arab musical band led by Maestro Dr. Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghaffar accompanied by recitalists from the opera house. This elegant event was concluded at 1:45 am, with the commencement of a new Rotary year, and high hopes for worthy achievements.

بدأت مراسم الحفل في تمام العاشرة من مساء يوم السبت الموافق 1/7/2006 والتي حضرها السيد
اللواء محمد عبد السلام المحجوب محافظ الاسكندرية وجميع قيادات العمل الاجتماعي بالمحافظة بكلمة الزميل الفنان سامح الصريطي والتي رحب فيها بالحضور وشرح دور الروتاري في خدمة المجتمع ثم قام بالقاء الضوء على بعض ما حققته المنطقة خلال هذا العام
الروتاري 2005/2006 برئاسة المحافظ جون سترونجيلوس و الآمال الكبار المعقودة على ما ستحققه المنطقة خلال العام الحالي 2006/2007 برئاسة المحافظ الدكتور حسن عباس حلمي ... بعد هذه الكلمة قام الزميل أحمد سعادة بعرض فيلم عن تاريخ إنشاء الروتاري عام 1905 ومؤسسه بول هاريس حيث
تم الاحتفال بالعيد المئوي لإنشائه العام الماضي 2005 ، بعد ذلك تم استعراض طابور الأعلام للدول التسعة وهي
مصر- لبنان – قبرص- السودان- الأردن – البحرين- الإمارات - أرمينيا – جورجيا) التي تضمهم المنطقة الروتارية 2450 ثم تحدث المحافظ جون سترونجيلوس وشرح ما تم تنفيذه خلال هذا العام من خلال الأندية الروتارية وكذلك المنطقة وبعض المشروعات الهامة التي نفذت والمشروعات التي لم يكتمل تنفيذها في فترة رئاسته للمنطقة أملاً ان تنفذ خلال هذا العام 2006/2007 كما قام بالثناء على كل من ساعدوه سواء في تنفيذ المشروعات أو في النواحي الادارية العديدة بالمنطقة ..ثم قام بتسليم بعض النوادي شهادات تقدير كما
قام بتسليم الزميل ر.س وجدي مسيحة جائزة 'Service Above Self' ، وفي نهاية كلمته قام بتسليم شارة رئاسة المنطقة للمحافظ حسن عباس حلمي الذي القى بدوره كلمته حيث اثنى فيها على فريق المنطقة اللذين تعاونوا معه لدورهم الفعال خلال الأشهر السابقة للإعداد لهذا العام كما قام أيضاً بشرح رؤياه في المشروعات الهامة التي :ستقوم المنطقة بتنفيذها وهي:
1- القافلة الطبية للسودانيين.
2- القضاء على مرض البلهارسيا بمصر و السودان.
3- القروض الدوارة.
4- السكان و الأسر المعيلة وحو الأمية.
وفي كلمته دعى جميع الزملاء الروتاريين بالتقدم لقيادة الطريق

الشعار الخاص بالروتاري الدولي هذا العام كما طالب أيضاً بضرورة الاهتمام بتنمية العضوية وحضور المؤتمر الخاص بها والذي سينعقد بالإسكندرية يوم 18/8 المقبل كما طلب من الجميع زيارة موقع المنطقة الإلكتروني (
www.rotary2450.org) للتعرف على كل الأحداث و الأخبار و المناسبات بالمنطقة وكذلك لتصحيح البيانات الخاصة بالأعضاء لمطابقتها بالبيانات المسجلة في الروتاري الدولي.
وفي ختام كلمته دعى جميع الروتاريين وأسرهم لحضور مؤتمر المنطقة الواحد و السبعون و الذي سيعقد في الاسكندرية في الفترة ما بين 17-20 مايو 2007 و تمنى للجميع قضاء سهرة طيبة استعداداً للعمل الجاد خلال هذا العام وذلك من
أجل تحقيق رسالتنا الانسانية "تقدموا الطريق".
وبعد كلمة الدكتور حسن عباس حلمي تم البدء في تسليم شارة الرئاسة من رؤساء النوادي السابقين إلى الرؤساء القادمين، وبعد ذلك قام الزميل
محمد عبد المحسن سكرتير المنطقة بالثناء على جميع الزملاء الذين ساعدوه للإعداد لهذا الاحتفال وهم : الروتاري
أحمد يحيى عاشور( نادي الإسكندرية) ،
ر.س وجدي مسيحة (نادي النزهة) ،
ر.س مصباح خضر (نادي مريوط) ،
ر. أسامه الأحمر( نادي سبورتنج).
وفي تمام الساعة 11:45مساءاً تم تقديم العشاء المتميز لجميع الحضور وفي نهاية الحفل امتعنا المايسترو الدكتور عبد الحميد عبد الغفار بقيادته للفرقة الموسيقية والتي صاحبت بعض نجوم الأوبرا أثناء الغناء.
وأخيراً اختتم الحفل الممتع في تمام الساعة 1:45 من بعد منتصف الليل معلناً بدء عام روتاري جديد سيكون مليئاً بالإنجازات بإذن الله.
