LII. Logic of the Emotional Mind



Maybe the logic of the emotional mind is associative. Maybe the emotional mind takes elements that symbolize reality, or trigger a memory of it, to be the same as reality. Maybe that is why similes, ****phors, and images speak found in Novels, film, poetry, song, theatre, opera speaking directly to the emotional mind. Maybe some great spiritual teachers, have touched their disciples' hearts by speaking in the language of emotion, teaching in parables, fables, and stories. Maybe religious symbol and ritual makes little sense from the rational point of view. Maybe we couch these in the vernacular of the heart.

Maybe our emotional minds follow their own logic and their own rules. Maybe with one element standing for another; we need not define things by their objective identity necessarily. Maybe what matters is how things seem to be. Maybe what something reminds us of can be far more important than what something is. While our rational minds make logical connections between causes and effects, maybe our emotional minds are indiscriminate, connecting things that merely have similar striking features.
