Asalam o alaikum:
As Racial, Ethnic profiling continues, Muslims and Arab Americans are
expected to be singled out while boarding planes. While some recognition
has been given to discrimination against discriminatory pull over of
African Americans by police officers (DWB: Driving While Black) there
needs to be a greater awareness of what Muslims and their families face
when boarding planes: (FWM: Flying while Muslim).

We are forwarding the an ADC TRAVEL ADVISORY on Airline Passenger
Profiling that should help with spreading this awareness:

"In the past month, the ADC Legal Department has received an increasing
number of airline passenger profiling complaints. ADC is concerned that
Arab Americans will continue to be profiled given the political events
in the Middle East and the fact that the heavy summer travel season is
fast approaching.

Airline passenger profiling has been a major concern for Arab Americans
and/or Muslim Americans. Arab Americans and/or Muslim/Americans
continue to be singled out while traveling abroad or within the United
States. Since the TWA Flight 800 crash in 1996 and after receiving
hundreds of complaints of discrimination at airports by Arabs and
Arab-American travelers, ADC has been working with Department of
Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to
resolve this issue. Although President George W. Bush voiced his
concern and commitment to do away with racial profiling and despite
ADC=92s efforts to combat the practice, airline passenger profiling is
still widespread and Arab Americans continue to be profiled and singled
out because of their Arab origin.

Judging from the increased frequency of complaints received by the Legal
Department, ADC anticipates that many Arab Americans will be profiled
this year while traveling to the Middle East. As one of its commitments
to eliminate and combat airline profiling, ADC urges all its members to
notify ADC immediately if they or any of their family members are
subjected to harassment or discriminatory treatment while traveling. A
majority of these incidents appear to take place while passengers are at
the check-in counters or boarding areas for flights bound to Europe or
Middle East. Arab Americans are advised to be alert to any comments
made by airline personnel that discuss the passenger=92s national origin
or ethnicity.

Documenting these incidents is significant in proving that profiling of
Arab Americans is ongoing despite assurances from the DOT and the FAA
that the new profiling system does not discriminate based on ethnicity,
race, color, religion and national origin. If you or anyone you know is
a recent victim of airline profiling, please notify our office at
202-244-2990 or contact us via e-mail at legal@adc.org You may also
complete the airline passenger profiling complaint form available at http://www.adc.org .
